Every Cloud VPS comes with backups and snapshots built in. Nothing to set up to be covered, and you can take a snapshot before any risky change.
What's included with your plan:
How it works: backup, snapshot, and restore are all available from your client portal and the customer API. Restores and backups run as background jobs — you start one and it completes server-side, so it keeps going even if you close the tab. Your backups are stored encrypted, the same as your live disk. Want backup encryption only you can unlock? Register zero-knowledge recovery keys and each backup made after that is sealed to keys only you hold — we cannot read or recover it, and any one of your registered keys can. See Zero-knowledge backups: your recovery keys.
This is not a substitute for your own backups. If your data matters, follow the old rule: keep more than one copy, in more than one place, and test that you can actually restore. Snapshots protect you against a bad change; they do not protect you against deciding you needed something you deleted three months ago. For a true second copy, run a backup target on a second VPS — a small HDD Cloud VPS in Texas, or an SSD Cloud VPS in Kansas, is a cheap place to keep one in our other region — or pull your data down to hardware you control. Our network is unmetered, so moving backups around doesn't cost you bandwidth.
Need more retained backups than your plan includes? Open a support ticket from your client area and tell us what you're trying to protect. We'd rather scope it with you than have you guess.
